Coastal Hikes

Trek through mystical forests that give way to pristine beaches–there’s truly nothing like a coastal hike in Oregon. All within about 30 minutes or less from Bay Point Landing, some of our favorite hikes include Shore Acres State Park, Cape Arago State Park, and the South Slough Reserve. You’re sure to work up an appetite–so head back to the General Store for a beverage of your choice, grab complimentary coffee, cocoa and tea at the Cove Lounge, and get ready to savor coastal cuisine.

GETAWAY GUIDE

Whale of a Time

Catch the tail end of the year with gray whale migration from December to March. Just 35 minutes north in Winchester Bay, the lighthouse or Wayfinder’s Point are two places to spot whales breaching along their journey from the Arctic to Baja California, and back. Brave the waves with Whale’s Tale Charters, or stay shore-side at the Whale Watch Center in Depoe Bay, another two hours north.

Come for the coast, stay for the chowder. A short drive to town, you’ll find fine dining at Restaurant O, local comforts washed down with craft brews at 7 Devils (we love their new location).

Snag some seafood selfies while crabbing and clamming. Coos Bay and Charleston, a few minutes from Bay Point Landing, are great places to start. Just remember, licensing is required.
